Annika Verplacke, 14, performed an unforgettable dance routine showcasing her ballet and hip-hop abilities. She was competing in the European semi-finals of the Youth America Grand Prix in Paris.
Her outfit consisted of half a tutu and half plain black tights. ‘Heart Cry’ by Drehz was the song she performed. It had the ideal blend of string instruments and hip-hop beats for her routine.
Magali Berael and Fundi Omari choreographed an incredible routine. Annika demonstrated that her ballet and hip-hop abilities were on par. She transitioned between the two styles with ease and grace.
The presentation was fantastic, especially given the use of two very different styles. Annika’s costume is eye-catching and fits the theme of her routine perfectly. Even the song’s style shifts from time to time.
Annika would pop and lock one second and then be on pointed toes the next. She gave a deep bow at the end of her performance as the audience applauded her.
She then attended the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City after studying at the Ecole Supérieure de Danse de Cannes Rosella Hightower. She began dancing when she was four years old.
Annika has been pursuing her dreams of becoming a dancer since she was a child. She received the Regional Dance America Choreography Connection Award.
