The term “rehability” refers to the intersection of rehabilitation and ability. It’s referred to as “slaying.” Prepare to be inspired by a video created by Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, whatever you call it.
Former patients and campers were paired with Mary Free Bed staffers to demonstrate their jaw-dropping moves. Marisa Hamamoto, a ballet and contemporary dancer for over 20 years, choreographed the entire production. The video, titled “Miracles in Motion,” commemorates National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, which runs from September 16 to 22.
It’s a cause close to Hamamoto’s heart, as she discovered ballroom dancing while recovering from a rare spinal cord stroke that temporarily paralyzed her from the neck down. She founded Infinite Flow, an inclusive dance company, in 2015 with the goal of using dance to empower people with disabilities.
