To celebrate her 90th birthday, this grandmother dressed up like a “princess” for the day!
The cherished grandmother, affectionately known as “G-Ma” by her family, celebrated her ninth decade with a regal feast. During her birthday photoshoot, the happy matriarch looked like a queen in a pink tutu and a plastic crown, all smiles for the camera.
G-relatives Ma’s decorated her face with a throne, cake, balloons, and biscuits. They also made her a t-shirt that said, “It took me 90 years to look this wonderful!”
Stephanie Perkins, G-grandaughter, Ma’s came up with the concept of a princess-themed photo shoot. It took her two and a half weeks to get everything ready on April 24.
“My grandmother is really dear to me, and we didn’t get to visit her much during the pandemic and quarantine,” Stephanie explained. “I was aware that her 90th birthday was approaching, and we wanted to do something special for her.”
Their family had been immunized, so they felt confident in celebrating G-special Ma’s day together.
Stephanie had seen people do photoshoots for first birthdays and even 30th birthdays online, and she thought it would be fun if G-Ma could do the same for her 90th birthday.
Fortunately, G-Ma was up for it!
Stephanie remarked, “She was quite delighted to pose and do everything we asked her.” “She was laughing and smiling the entire time.” We all had a great time honoring G-Ma.”
Photographer Melissa Denny, 37, who went to high school with Stephanie, snapped G-Ma’s princess birthday photos in Reynolds Gardens in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
“We had a terrific night talking, laughing, and dancing — G-Ma was a great sport and up for everything,” Melissa added. “She has a sweet, joyful disposition, and she can get off of a chair faster than I can!”
“Her family definitely adores her; they were all so happy and laughing with her,” she went on to say.
Melissa expressed her willingness to participate in the shoot when asked whether she was interested.
“What a lovely opportunity to spend time with a sweet, 90-year-old, wonderful lady, sharing memories and celebrating her milestone birthday,” she remarked.
During the session, G-Ma was joined by her daughter Debra, son-in-law, and two granddaughters. Everyone joined her for the party and appeared in several of the shots.
Stephanie said their whole family celebrated with G-Ma because she is the matriarch of the family.
“She is so important and special to each of us and we all wanted to be there to see her shine on her special day,” she said.
On the day of the shoot, a bunch of prom-goers pulled up and wanted to wish G-Ma a happy birthday. The celebrant was grateful for their kindness.
The shoot was only the first part of G-Ma’s birthday celebration. The next day, the grandma also had a drive-thru party where her other friends could safely wish her a happy birthday.
