It can feel like the local wildlife is out to get you if you are a gardener or farmer. That’s how Permar felt when a groundhog stole and ate his crop in front of his security camera.
Jeff Permar had enjoyed gardening for many years. However, in 2022, he discovered that some of his vegetables were missing. So he decided to install a security camera to catch his thief red-handed.
Permar thought it was a happy accident the first time the groundhog stood in front of the camera while eating. The farmer knew this eccentric groundhog wanted him to see that he was eating his crop the second time.
Permar realized he needed to do something after the third time to keep the groundhog out of his supply. Because the farmer did not want to harm the animal, he gave the groundhog an easier alternative to stealing food.
Permar decided to place his new “garden” in front of the security camera because the groundhog enjoyed eating in front of it. He set out a feast of carrots, zucchini, apples, and peppers for the groundhog.
When Chunk, the groundhog, arrived for his next meal, he found a tasty meal waiting for him. And the rodent made certain that the camera captured his entire lunch.
However, Chunk was not the only groundhog who discovered Permar’s groundhog garden. The entire family eventually joined in to eat their meals in front of the gardener’s security camera.
