When preschoolers reunite after fighting cancer together in the hospital, it is a touching moment.

A joyful reunion took place between the hospital walls for the first time for a pair of 3-year-olds who were fighting cancer together in the same hospital.

Both Mack Porter and Payson Altice were battling cancer when they first met in 2021 at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. They were reunited once more in late July after they had both achieved remission and were no longer in the hospital.

Mack gave Payson a lovely arrangement of flowers and the two of them enjoyed a tender embrace. The two soon-to-be preschoolers then danced together as Mack demonstrated the twirl to Payson.

They played with the toys Mack chose for them throughout the morning because he wanted to make sure Payson would enjoy them. What a thoughtful youngster he is.

In January 2021, Mack received an anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) diagnosis. Payson and Mack met at the hospital where Payson was receiving treatment for B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Peppa Pig had a common interest for the two, and Payson later introduced Mack to the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” It was a delight to merely observe our kids being kids, Danielle Porter, Mack’s mother, spoke after seeing the reunion of the two children.

Every morning, Mack apparently asks, “When can I play with Payson?” The friendship between the two 3-year-olds is evident, and we wish it would always exist. Payson’s mother, Tracey Altice, remarked on how much can be learned from children. “During these dangerous and challenging times,” she said, “turn to the children because they’ll lead the way.”
