Why Testa’s Knife-Walking Act Was Unusual for the AGT Judges

The America’s Got Talent judges occasionally come across an act that they haven’t seen before. Granted, it’s unusual—but remember, this is a show with everything from teenage opera singers to backflipping dogs. Simply put, Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara are unfazed these days.

They were, however, taken aback by Testa, a dangerous Act who did something Klum admitted she had “never seen.” So, what exactly did he do? He walked on knives, after all. Literally.

To be honest, a description cannot do this Act justice. Simply watch Testa’s performance in the video above and prepare to be blown away. And also terrified. And I was impressed. The Judges were all of these things in equal measure, as evidenced by the expressions on their faces.

“I have a strange relationship with acts like this because I love and hate them,” Vergara explained. “It’s as if I want to see it and don’t want to see it at the same time. It was amazing how this gave me all of those feelings.”

Acts like Testa’s must have been what Klum meant when she said judging AGT is a “rollercoaster of emotions.”

“Every day is different and new,” she told Access Hollywood. “Yes, we [the Judges and Host] are the same, but there are all these crazy, different people on stage. We’re having a great time. Because someone comes in and starts singing, I always refer to it as a ‘rollercoaster of emotions.’ The next performer is an aerialist. The next person is either a contortionist or a comedian. Because they are real people, everyone has a story to tell. They aren’t actors. This is not a film. This is everyday life. It’s always entertaining to hear the stories…it never gets old.”

It never gets boring. Testa has advanced to the next round of AGT, so watch Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC to see how he does.
